Fungal nail infection

Fungal nail infections are a common condition. Fungal nail is not a severe condition, but they can take a long time to treat.

Usually, Fungal nail infections begin at the edge of the nail as a white or yellow spot under the tip of the fingernail or toenail. If the infection goes deeper and spreads to the middle or affects several nails, and may cause more discolouration, thickening and crumbling at the edge. Finally, the nail becomes brittle, and pieces can break off, then the whole nail lifts off.

To treat a fungal nail infection, GP can prescribe an antifungal table which may take up to 6 months to treat the fungus. However, tablets can cause sued effects such as headaches, itching, loss of taste and feeling sick and diarrhoea.

One another very effective treatment is a laser to destroy the fungus.

The heat from a laser penetrates through the nail to the nail bed, where the fungus exists. The laser targets the area of infection; the heat produced inhibits the growth of the fungus and destroys it.

At Elley MediSpa, we offer laser fungal treatment, and the price range starts from £50. Please feel free to contact Elley Spa for more information.
